First Year

It’s official. Today marks my first full year working exclusively as a freelance designer under my own banner of Rebecca Manchester Design & Illustration! There have been so many anxious, exciting, terrifying and inspiring moments that it’s hard to believe it’s only been one year. My biggest concern when I took the leap into the realm of sole proprietorship was if I would land on my feet. Not only did I land on my feet, but I hit the ground running at full speed and haven’t looked back. My first year has been fabulous!

A huge thank you goes out to all of my family, friends and especially my husband, Zach who patiently and continuously nudged me towards the precipice, assuring me that starting my freelance business was a brilliant idea. Looking back with 20/20 vision, I can’t believe how long it took me to do it. I also thank all of my colleagues and clients. This year was a huge learning experience, and I met so many wonderful new people along the way, many of whom changed the way I viewed myself, my profession and the world around me. This thank you post wouldn’t be complete without a big thank you to the Champlain Connections BNI chapter of which I am a member. BNI has helped me grow my business through strong professional relationships, honed my networking and communication skills and made me into a better business woman.

This year, I plan on incorporating more effective social media strategies to boost my online presence and to attend more networking events to continue building strong connections with other professionals and the community. Let’s see where the next 12 months takes us!
